1944-2016, Linda H. Beaver - Charlotte  
Linda Hill Beaver of Charlotte, NC died Tuesday, April 19, at her home after a long illness. Linda was born on October 2, 1944. She was a graduate of Garinger High School (1962) and Appalachian State Teachers College (1966). She taught school in Concord, NC and West Jefferson, NC before working for the State of NC Criminal Justice System until her retirement. She is survived by her son Rev. Blair H. Beaver (and Kimberly Beaver), her three grandchildren Hannah, Noah, and Madison Beaver all of Bay Minette, AL; and her brother Ronald F. Hill of Charlotte, NC. The family will hold a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Hospice of Charlotte (1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204). Adams, John - Matthews  
John E. Adams MATTHEWS - John E. Adams, 77, of Matthews, NC and formerly of Auburn, NY, passed away peacefully late Wednesday night, April 13, 2016, at Willow Grove Retirement Community. He was born in Sennett, NY, son of the late John and Mildred Cook Adams and had been an area resident for most of his life until moving to North Carolina in 1999 to be closer to his children. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the late 1950s and lived by their motto, "Semper Fi", meaning "always faithful." Prior to his retirement in 2011, John spent nearly 50 years working as an insurance adjustor for various companies, including Madison Mutual in Chittenango, Reid Jones Mc Rorie & Williams of Charlotte; and as President of Adams Claims Consulting, Inc. in NC. John exemplified integrity and faithfulness in all aspects of his life. He deeply loved his devoted wife Sharon and family. In recent years he handled adversity with grace and honor. He taught by example, and his lessons are part of his legacy. He is survived by his loving children: three sons John M. (Glenda) Adams of Raleigh, NC, Jeff (Kim) Adams of Mint Hill, NC, Jodi (Lisa) Adams of TN, and a daughter Shari (David) Barnard of Monroe, NC; several grandchildren (including Hannah, Will, Luke, Maggie, Kari, Alec, Madison, and others) and great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Michael Sigona. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by the love of his life, Sharon Durniak Adams. There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate John's life on Saturday, April 30, at 2pm at Messiah Lutheran Church which is located at 8300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church at same address or Parkinson Association of the Carolinas, 5970 Fairview Road, Suite 217, Charlotte, NC 28210.

Aikens, Jonee Kimrey - Matthews  
Mrs. Aikens, 91, of Matthews, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Carrington Place. Her family will receive friends at 11:00am, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Trinity Fellowship Church, 13232 Idlewild Rd. Matthews, NC 28105. A Funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Born July 1, 1924, in Mill Springs, NC, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Vance Kimrey and Mary Clyde Kimrey. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, the late Mervin "Bucky" Aikens. Her survivors include three children, Ronnie Aikens and wife, Christine, Karen Thompson and husband, Steve, and Vince Aikens; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. She was employed at Carolina Virginia Fashion Exhibitors for over 40 years. She enjoyed her time there and the many friends she had made. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Lurecrest Ministries or Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region. Alexander, Lois Minarik - Charlotte  
Mrs. Lois Minarik Alexander, of Charlotte, passed away on April 21, 2016. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio January 15, 1929, a daughter of James Walter Minarik and Lucile Ahrens Minarik. Lois graduated from Hathaway Brown School in 1946 and Flora Stone Mather (Case Western Reserve University) with a Bachelor's of Science in 1950. She was a camp counselor in Ohio and Idaho where she taught archery, canoeing, horseback, crafts, and swimming - activities that she enjoyed for the rest of her life. After graduating from college, she taught elementary school. On December 27, 1952, she married John Brevard Alexander in Lakewood, OH. After living in Cleveland and Richmond, Virginia, they settled in Charlotte in 1963, where they raised three children together, sharing many adventures and joys. Lois taught at Eastover, Sharon, and Collinswood elementary schools. As a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Lois was active in the Women of the Church, Sunday school programs, Montreat weekends, and other church activities. She was also a member of the Professional Engineers Auxiliary of NC, the Charlotte Dance Club, Winghaven, Shepherd Center, Rosedale, the Mecklenburg Historical Association, and the Presbyterian Heritage Center. Lois enjoyed 52 years in her house in Charlotte, tending her flower and vegetable gardens and watching the birds. She shared the beauty and the harvests with friends and those in need. She also loved her second home in Montreat, where she spent many long weekends relaxing and entertaining. She loved playing games and cooking with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else willing to have some fun. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted, generous, sweet lady who always managed to see the best in others. She demonstrated her beliefs by example and spoke with soft words. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her sister, and her husband John. She is survived by daughter, Nell Tortorich; son, J. Brevard Alexander Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Hamilton and her husband Clay; and three grandchildren, Mary Morgan, Clara Elizabeth and John Charles Hamilton. A Memorial Service will be held at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Friday, April 29 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Montreat Conference Center (Box 969 Montreat NC) or Myers Park Presbyterian Church (Charlotte, NC). Harry & Bryant is serving the family.

Allen, Francis Edward - Concord  
Francis Edward Allen, 79, of Concord, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.  Mr. Allen was born on March 23, 1937 in DuPage County, Illinois to the late Vincent Allen and Elsie Lesmann Allen.  Francis proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Mr. Allen was a member of New Hope Worship Center in Concord and worked in NASCAR for over 30 years before becoming Owner/Operator of a CARQUEST Auto Parts store in Denver, NC.  He enjoyed playing golf, time at the beach, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Jacobs Allen of Concord; two daughters, Gina Dunagan and husband Steve of Concord, and Dana Brewer and husband Tim of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren, Cayson Dunagan, Emma Dunagan, Suzy Kessler, Brittany Strickler and husband Kyle, Ashton Cooper and husband Alistar, and Jared Kessler; and one great grandchild, Madison Elizabeth Strickler.  A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at New Hope Worship Center in Concord, conducted by Pastor Dale Jenkins. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. with the service to follow at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Worship Center "Youth Camps", 452 Brookwood Ave NE., Concord, NC 28025. Almond, William "Bill" - Charlotte  
Mr. William "Bill" Almond, 64, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016. A native of Carthage, TN, Bill was the son of Lloyd and Peggy Almond. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tip Almond, his stepmother, Bobbie Almond, and step-father, Joe Green. Bill was a retired electrician for the City of Charlotte working at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport with 35 years of service. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, hot rods, and tinkerin'. Through the years, he and his son built several hot rods and rat rods. Mr. Almond is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy Almond, their children; Michelle Duke (Mike) of Rock Hill, SC, Allison "Butthead" Almond (Dennis Chapman) of Huntersville, Michael Almond (Maggie) of Murrells Inlet, SC, grandchildren; Alex and Ella Duke, Annabel Almond, step-brother, Ed Bullard of Charlotte, and niece, Ashely Almond of Jasper, AL.
