Anita M. Burton GREENVILLE - Anita M. Burton, 86, passed on to Glory on Friday, May 17, 2013. A memorial service for Anita will be held Tuesday at 2 PM in the Mausoleum at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro, NC. Friends are welcome to join the family for the service. Anita was born on January 10, 1927, to Harold and Edna Dewey Ashmusen in Albany, NY. She graduated from Albany High School and Mildred Elley Business College and worked for the NY State Treasury Dept. until June 28, 1947. Anita was united in marriage June 28, 1947, to Theodore (Ted) Burton, also of Albany, NY, at the historic First Church in Albany, NY, where she was a member and sang in the choir. After marriage, the Burtons moved to Glens Falls, NY, moved in 1954 to Roanoke, VA and then in 1966 to Greensboro, NC. In 2012, Anita moved to Greenville, NC. Anita and Ted owned and operated a commercial refrigeration business until Ted's death in 1998. Anita assisted her husband in his refrigeration business as well as supported him in his ministry to men through the Christian Businessmen's Committee (CBMC). She was a member of Westover Church and the Women's Missionary Fellowship. She participated in Westover's "Keenagers" Program and for over 10 years she created the humorous and inspirational "Quips and Quotes" newsletter for their monthly meetings. Preceded in death by her husband, Ted, Anita is survived by daughters, Gail Burton Joyner and her husband Carl of Greenville, NC and Kathy Burton Meacham and her husband Robert of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Robert Meacham III of Matthews, NC, Kimberly Burton Dail and husband Joshua of Greenville, NC, Preston Taylor Joyner and wife Nicole of Charlotte, NC, Heather Meacham Robinson and husband Alex of China Grove, NC; great-grandson, Garrett Taylor Dail of Greenville, NC; sister-in-law, Marjorie Burton Emma of Wilson, NC; cousin, Roger and Claire Dewey of Boston; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Pete Lane and his wife Leslie. The family would like to thank Roger Ward and Bruce Banks for the help they provided to our mother during the time she was living in Greensboro after the death of our father and to Jim Bailey for his leadership with the renovation of her home in Greensboro. We would also like to thank Susan Alford, Lakoiya Pittman, Sterling House staff and Angela Lacrosse of Community Home Care and Hospice for their tender and loving care of our mother during her last days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missionary Fund at Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410, Community Hospice or a charity of your choice.
