James Lotito Obituary

James L. Lotito, Jr.
'Jim'
Mr. Lotito, 64, of Charlotte, went to his heavenly home on July 18, 2009, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, after a ten-month battle with brain cancer.
Jim was born March 4, 1945, and raised in Lyndhurst, NJ. He graduated from Queen of Peace High School in 1963. He attended New York Institute of Technology in New York City receiving a degree in Architectural Engineering in 1970. Upon graduation, Jim was employed with Amman & Whitney, Inc. of New York City where he worked on architectural aspects of the ABM missile system.
Jim moved to Charlotte, NC, in 1974 and worked for Little & Associates, Catalytic Inc., and Carocon Corp. In 1979 he obtained his residential General Contractor's license. This began a 25-year run of building quality custom homes in the Charlotte area under Enviro-Design and Lotito-Leonard Builders, Inc.
In 2005 Jim became the building superintendent at St. Mark Catholic Church where he and his family have been members since 2000. He was active with the Knights of Columbus, becoming a 4th-degree Knight. With his carpenter skills he was able to transform the current worship area at St. Mark, a gymnasium, into more of a sanctuary.
Jim was a talented woodworker. He made wonderful toys for his son and grandson, a Lego table, an easel, a wagon, a pirate ship. He created dozens of unique clock cases over the years, as well as shadow boxes to house his Civil War memorabilia. He was a master at making models, especially airplanes, a skill which he passed along to his son. There wasn't anything he couldn't repair or create when a need arose.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Lotito, Sr. and Marie Toto Lotito of Lyndhurst, NJ. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Linda, and son Gregory of the home; daughter Danielle Lotito Young of Charlotte; grandson Elijah Young of Charlotte; and brother Larry Lotito of Cornelius, NC; Aunt and Uncle Helen and Robert Lotito, of Tampa, FL and Corbin and Genevieve Lotito Grasso, of Lyndhurst, NJ.
The Lotito family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Knights of Columbus and their many neighbors, friends, and church family, as well as the caring staff at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, who have sustained them throughout Jim's illness.
Visitation will be held at Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, from 7 - 9 pm. A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 11:00AM.
Flowers are welcome; however, memorials may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church Building Fund at 12740 Stumptown Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078 or Levine & Dickson Hospice and Palliative Care at 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
