Charles Randall Hopkins "Randy" CHARLOTTE - Charles Randall "Randy" Hopkins died peacefully at home on Monday, May 6, 2013, surrounded by family. He was 59 and a much loved father, grandfather, husband, son, uncle and friend. Randy, a retired general contractor, was a talented craftsman whose strong hands could coax beauty from wood and fix anything mechanical. His talent, ambition and hard work enabled him to build a successful business, C.R. Hopkins Construction. His hands were also gentle, providing comfort and support. He loved the outdoors and spent some of his happiest moments on his boat or sitting high in a tree, watching wildlife. He lived life to the fullest, never halfway, and had many adventures, large and small. Randy enjoyed traveling with his wife and gathering with family and friends, especially at the cabin he lovingly crafted deep in the S.C. woods. For family and friends, he leaves a legacy of knowledge that will be with us always when we step into the woods, watch roaming animals, contemplate a home improvement or bait a fishhook and dream of catching the Big One. Randy is survived by his parents, Frances and Doug Hopkins; his wife Stella Hopkins; three daughters, Jennifer Lay and husband Chris; Lindsay Johnston and husband Andy; and Julia Ernst and husband Jason. Survivors also include three dear grandchildren, Ryan and Evan Lay and Harper Johnston, as well as brothers Mitch and Blake Hopkins and sister Chan Cook. Donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Johnston Building, 212 S. Tryon St., Suite 1080, Charlotte, NC 28281.
