Irvin Thomas Garrett BELMONT - Irvin Thomas Garrett, 88, died peacefully on January 31, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Belmont, he was the son of the late David Hicks Garrett Sr. and Carrie Shepherd Garrett. Irvin was a graduate of Belmont High School and attended Business College in Charlotte. He worked with Matthews Lumber and Queen City Lumber in Charlotte. He was a US WWII Army
Veteran and a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Belmont. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45PM, Saturday at the church. A Committal Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Reverends Samuel P. Warner and Daria L. Ragan officiating. Survivors include his wife, Alma Tate Garrett; step-daughter, Karen Abrams of Cramerton; step grandchildren, Jason, Stephanie, Shawn and Jennifer; four step great grandchildren; brothers, William H. Garrett of Belmont, David H. Garrett and wife, Ruby of Mt. Holly; sister, Irene Wyant and husband Fred of Belmont; brother in law, Howard Tate and wife, Martha of Chapel Hill.
