Porter Keith Cantrell

Porter Keith Cantrell MATTHEWS - Mr. Cantrell, 74, of Matthews, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, at his home after a long illness. Born July 28, 1938, in Charleston, WV, Porter was the son of the late Dennis and Ivey (Lamby) Cantrell. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Cantrell had been employed as an engineer at the Cleveland, Ohio, plant of the Ford Motor Company. He retired after 28 years of service. A resident of Charlotte since 1983, Porter enjoyed NASCAR and had attended numerous races around the country including the Daytona Race, which he and his Mary made their annual event. Besides his parents, Porter was preceded in death by his daughter Lois Clorite and sister Wilma Jean Gobdy. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Cheryl Bates and brothers Charles, Bruce, Jim, Alfred and Elwood. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kyle, Lauren, Brandi, Carol Lynn, Christy, Courtney and Nathan; god-daughter Carol Scheiman; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 22nd from 10-11AM at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd., Charlotte with a service to follow at 11 AM with Father Patrick Hoare officiating.
