Robert J. Edelen

Robert Joseph Edelen "Bob" MOORESVILLE - Robert "Bob" Joseph Edelen, 82, of Canvasback Rd., Mooresville, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at his residence. Born November 15, 1930, in Orange, NJ, he was a son of the late Dr. James Joseph Edelen and Imogene Mudd Edelen. Mr. Edelen was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair, NJ, where he played baseball and football. He went on to earn a Math Degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. He retired from IBM as a Senior Systems and Development Analysts having over 25 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran having served as a Corporal in the US Army. Mr. Edelen was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, where he had served as Sexton, Eucharist Minister, Chairman of Community Life and member of Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Executive Board for Mooresville/Lake Norman Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Edelen visited and actively worked with a mission in Alto Cayma, Peru, for many years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Betty, throughout the US, Europe and Peru. Mr. Edelen also bowled twice weekly with the Seniors. He is survived by his wife, Jane Elizabeth "Betty" Edelen, whom he married in 1955; children, Patricia Carr (Brian), Mary Ashley, Robert Edelen, Jr. (Kathy), Thomas Edelen (Joyce) and Theresa Freeze (Brian); brother, John Edelen (Rea); sister, Theresa Westerman; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, July 11, 2013, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte-Lake Norman, 705 Griffith St., Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036 or the St. Therese Catholic Church Building Fund, 217 Brawley School Rd., Mooresville, NC 28117.
