Inez Ramsey Atkins
BLACK MOUNTAIN -- Inez Atkins, 97, of 48 Vance Ave., passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010 with her two sons by her side. Mrs. Atkins was born December 3, 1912 in Habersham County, Georgia and had been a resident of the Swannanoa Valley for 70 plus years. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Georgia Ramsey.
Inez was a retired textile worker who was with the former Beacon Mfg. Company for over 40 years. After retirement she devoted her life and support to her immediate and large extended family. She loved gardening, cooking and had a passion for quilting and other creative endeavors.
Mrs. Atkins is preceded in death by her husband, Ruffner Atkins; son, Larry Atkins; sisters, Ruby Pruett and husband, Lloyd, Rosalene Franks and husband, Clyde; brothers, R.P. Ramsey, Clarence Ramsey and wife, Frances, M.L. Ramsey and wife, Irene, Lamar Ramsey and wife, Betty; sister-in-law, Minnie Mae Ramsey.
Inez is survived by her two sons, Jerry of Black Mountain and Mike of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Jean Ramsey of Black Mountain. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families as well as a host of extended family, friends and neighbors.
The family would like to extend a special note of appreciation to the following: the staff of Care Partners, especially Sherri, Jane and Ken; the staff of Blue Ridge Family Practice, especially Dr. James Marnock; her nieces and caretakers, Irene, Carol, Edith and Evelyn; her loving 'family' at Grace and Knowledge Community Church and to T.J. Dillingham for his craftsmanship and selflessness in his special gift to Mrs. Atkins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace and Knowledge Community Church with Dr. Phil Dillingham officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park The family will receive friends Friday, June 11, 2010 , in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home place and welcomes anyone who wishes to stop by.
