Bob was my first boss at PNM also. I started out as Bob's secretary. One time he dictated a letter to be sent when he was out of town and left me with a signed blank sheet. In it I accidently spelled one word incorrectly and sent it out. Bob returned and brought me the letter and a dictionary. I learned a lot that day. He was great!! I will always remember him with great love.
My condolences to his wife and family!

I just learned of this horrific tragedy today by way of a small notice in the Albuquerque Journal. Bob was my first boyfriend at Highland High in Albuquerque and we remained "best buds" long after. I am grief stricken. The loss his family and colleagues must feel is unimaginable. My heart goes out to all of them.

I had the previlage and honor of having Dr.Barber as my CEO at Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union South Carolina. This past Thursday night just hours before this terrible tragady Dr.Baber and I spent forty-five minutes together talking about family. He told me how proud of Debbie he was of her going back to college and graduating with honors. The light that Dr.Barber was to so many will be missed but never totally out.

I am currently in Dr. Barber's finance class and you can only imagine the shock of our class when we found out this information on Friday. This has truly been a very hard last couple of days for our class, as Dr. Barber was such an important part of our lives. He was an outstanding, challenging, and effective professor, and a true servant leader. This is a great loss for his family, the three universities he is associated with, and the greater Charlotte community.

I only met Dr. Barber once. I was doing a marketing visit to Wallace Thomson Hospital delivering some flyers and meeting with staff. As I was looking for one person, he came out of his office to offer me an explanation of where she could be. He was very polite and helpful. I ran into him again, a short time later, as he was talking to another manager about continuing her education into a DHA program. I was so impressed about how genuine he seemed to be. How concerned about her future he was. I remember thinking: "I need to get his contact information for myself. What a nice man". All of this occured, the first and ONLY time we met. He had a purpose for being here-to help others. He did just that...and he did it well.
God Bless the family and his soul! He will never be forgotten.

My husband and I moved to Chicago from Charlotte a year ago. We ran across this story, and have deduced that Bob was the man who left a note under my husband's windshield at Harris Teeter a few years ago with his name and phone number, to hopefully converse with a 'fellow Lobo'. (Our license plate was NMLOBO.) Over 2 years, on the streets of Charlotte, Bob or his wife would beep or wave as they came across our plates. I only wish we would have called to get to know these wonderful people. May Bob rest in peace.

Like so many, I am so sick over this. Being from a big city up North, usually I read something like this and move on but seeing it happen here, just makes my heart sick--- this isn't supposed to happen, not here.
There are no words to comfort this family, none at all. Just know, I am praying for you.

I don't know Mr. Barber but I read the story of his senseless death and I have been haunted by it. From what I read, this was a good man, an accomplished well educated man, a pillar of the community and a servant to others. I know that the sun will shine a little less brightly with his passing but take comfort that he is now in the arms of God and certain that he feels the love of all those who morn his passing. Such incomprehensible a senselss act.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family as you mourn the tragic taking of your husband, father and friend. Dr. Barber was a good man, who was very confident and passionate about Finance. He pushed us in class but you can tell it was because of the passion behind what he knows, not just his job. Those whom have not had the opportunity to have him as a teacher are missing out on a true experience. May the memory of all the cherished moments with him stay in your hearts forever.

Words cannot convey our sadness for Bob's family, friends and colleagues. I treasure too few, although very rich chats with Bob years ago. We quickly leaped past work talk, to profound chats about the simple, loving parts of life; especially love of family. Bob was a gentle, soul and touched more people than he will ever know.

Deborah and family, Bob was such a special guy around 801 - the closest I ever had as a mentor. I loved his "posole" Southwestern soup at our holiday dinners, and always looked up to him as a hero for his service to so many - both as interim CFO & CEO, but most of all as a colonel in the USAF Reserves.
