Robert William Edwards, II CHARLOTTE - Mr. Edwards, 83, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013. Born November 19, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Dr. Robert William Edwards and Nina Louise Roesler Edwards. Mr. Edwards graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1952 where he earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. The following two years he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning and then spent his career as a chemical engineer. A member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Mr. Edwards served as Elder, and Youth Advisor, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher for the John Calvin class. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and volunteered for the American Red Cross. Mr. Edwards was an avid racing fan and especially enjoyed Formula One sports car racing. His family includes his three children, Carrie Waldrop (Keith) of Kannapolis, Janet Johnson (Rick) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Robert Edwards of Charlotte; and six grandchildren, Richard Johnson, Layne Johnson, Robert Johnson, Grace Waldrop, Collin Waldrop and Rachel Waldrop. He will also be missed by his beloved poodle, Blossom. His loving wife, Nancy Johnson Edwards, preceded him in death. A service to celebrate Mr. Edwards' life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20th at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. His family will receive friends at the church following the service.
