Chad Patrick Cunningham MINT HILL - Chad Patrick Cunningham, 45, ended his long and bravely fought battle with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014. Born Sept. 16, 1968, Chad was a 1986 graduate of Dublin High School in Dublin, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Science in Aviation Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was a handsome and brilliant young man of many talents and interests and is fondly described as one of the gentlest, kindest souls you could ever know. Before early retirement, Chad was Director of Software Development for a government contracting company. He was also a pilot/pilot instructor for The Ohio State University Aviation program, an avid Parrothead (attended 87 shows), a lover of all music, the beach, and the mountains. He was a handyman, architect, and landscape designer who loved to golf, hike, boat, and enjoy the company of friends and family. Chad was a beloved son, husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He leaves behind his best friend and love of his life, wife, Emily Cunningham; their two sons (the "mini-Chads") Will (7) and Ian (4); his mother, Anne Cunningham; father and mother in-law John and Donna Osborn; sister and brother-in-law Erin and Dave Remias; niece Madelyn Remias (9) and nephew Austin Remias (6); as well as a legion of family, friends, and neighbors whose lives he touched more profoundly than he would ever have imagined. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Cunningham. Gatherings to celebrate Chad's life will be held on March 15th from 5pm - 8pm at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation clubhouse in Charlotte and on March 29th from 2pm - 5pm at The Bogey Inn in Powell, Ohio. Chad's main wish was to help others, particularly those facing this cruel disease. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Association are kindly appreciated. Arrangements are under the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. An online guestbook is available at
