Charles R. England MATTHEWS - Charles Richard England, age 87, of Matthews, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 at The Homeplace in Albemarle, NC. Celebration of life services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013. The family will receive friends following the service. Chuck was born December 31, 1925 in Cullman Alabama. He enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and that is where he met his beloved wife, Malvina (Dina) Alice LaMarre. They were married December 7, 1945 at St. James Episcopal Church in Lake City Florida. He served his country proudly in the United State Navy and was a Chief Petty Officer when discharged, and enrolled at Western Michigan University and graduated 1951. He worked for Consumers Power until 1974. Chuck and his family then relocated to Charlotte. He opened a hospitality supply company called Carolina Innkeepers Supply in 1975 and retired in 2002. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, William Monte England and Flonnie Lee Crumpton, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dina and son, James Richard England. Survivors include a son, Phillip LaMarre England of Charlotte, a daughter, Martha England Hughes and husband Douglas Charles Hughes of Albemarle, and two grandsons, Stuart Douglas Hughes and William Charles Hughes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or St. John's Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
