Clarence McDowell Elliott "Mac" CHARLOTTE - Clarence McDowell "Mac" Elliott went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 28, 2013, at the age of 85. Mac was born in Charlotte on February 10, 1928 to the late Clarence Morrow Elliott and Effie Smith Elliott. He was a graduate of Sharon High School. He served in the Air Force and Reserves from 1951-1959. Mac retired after 40+ years as co-founder and owner of Potts Hardware Inc., where he met many lifelong friends. He was a lifetime member of Ebenezer ARP Church where he previously served as treasurer and deacon. Mac was a loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, "paw-paw," and friend. He was known for his big personality and never missed an opportunity to share a good laugh and conversation. The family has many fond memories of days at the beach house spent fishing and searching for seashells. Mac also took pleasure in traveling to the mountains to visit family and go on picnics. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed annual trips to the Core Banks with his son and buddies. Mac also played canasta with his wife and close friends each week for over 60 years. Mac was preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret Huntley and brother-in-law Joe Huntley. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Ailene Ray Elliott, son MacRay Elliott and wife Linda, daughter Vickie Elliott, grandson Dustin Elliott and wife Katie, and granddaughter Jenna Elliott, all of Charlotte; along with five nieces and their families. The family would like to thank the staff of The Haven-Pineville and Mecklenburg Healthcare for the loving care and support they provided. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Ebenezer ARP Church, located at 6210 Old Pineville Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Rev. Leo Markwat will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ebenezer ARP Church Cemetery Fund. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.
