Gary A. Bush KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Gary Albert Bush, 74, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Bush was born September 25, 1939 in Torrington, WY. He was the son of the late Joe W. Bush and Edith Seaman Bush. Gary enlisted in the Navy on January 19, 1960. During his enlistment, he graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN in 1964 with an Electrical Engineering Degree and then went on to graduate from Officer Candidate School. In his 27 years of service in the military, he served a tour in Vietnam and Japan and was awarded the following medals: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star and Combat V, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Force Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Six Stars and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit. He also obtained a Management Degree at Post Graduate School in Monterrey, CA and then much later he retired on August 1, 1987 at the Rank of Commander. Gary loved golfing, gardening, reading and taking fall trips with his wife. Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gwendolyn Wall Bush; son, William H. Bush; two step-daughters, Debra Currie and Susan Naylor; step-son, Randall Virgin; two sisters, Judy Berens and Linda Hartman; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
