George Knight CHARLOTTE - Mr. George Knight, having lived 93 years, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior on March 5, 2013. Formerly of Roanoke, Virginia he has lived the past 17 years in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Mr. Knight was born on January 29, 1920, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, son of the late George E. Knight Sr. and Estelle Hopper Knight. In addition to his parents, Mr. Knight was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. A decorated Veteran of World War II, Mr. Knight served in Europe with the 30th infantry division. He has been a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Knight was in the laundry and dry cleaning business and was the owner of Crystal Spring Laundry and Cleaners when he retired. He will be remembered as a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather by his many friends and family. Mr. Knight is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 70 years, Mary Elizabeth Tate Knight, who kept constant vigil over her husband as they had a very happy life together. Mr. Knight is survived by his son, George E. Knight III and wife, Barbara; and his daughter, Judy Knight Hill and husband, Gary. Mr. Knight is also survived by four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving brothers are William and Paul and surviving sister is Velma Farrar. Funeral Services will be held at noon on Friday, March 8, 2013, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Carol Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
