Hugh Monroe Duncan CHARLOTTE - Mr. Duncan 84, of Charlotte, died April 20, 2014. Mr. Duncan was born in Shelby, NC. He was the son of the late Emily Logan Duncan and Dean Franklin Duncan. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and North Carolina State University. He was the first individual to fully endow a distinguished professorship at N.C. State. This was in the engineering school in memory of his father. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Duncan was president of Southern Precision Spring Co. for 35 years. He was a member of the Spring Manufacturers Institute, and served on the Board of Directors of S.M.I. He was selected as N.C. State University Distinguished Engineering Alumnus in the year 2000. He was a longtime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Webb Duncan; sons Hugh Monroe Duncan Jr., and wife Jill, and Thomas Taylor Duncan; four grandchildren; William Schuyler Duncan, Webb Yates Duncan, Jessie McBrayer Duncan and Nora Taylor Duncan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean F. Duncan, Jr. and a sister, Harriette E. Duncan. The family would like to thank Home Hospice and the staff of Hospice Southminster for their special care.
