Isabella Augusta (Milne) Magee MATTHEWS - Isabella Augusta (Milne) Magee passed away on July 21, 2013, in Matthews, NC. Mrs. Magee had been a resident in the Charlotte area since 1986, spending her last years in residence at Plantation Estates. She was born on July 16, 1921, in Chicago, IL, a daughter of the late John Duncan Milne and Leona (Bendig) Milne. Isabella graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Zoology, and from Penn State University with an M.Ed. She taught elementary-to-middle school aged children in special education classes in the Allentown, PA school district, and in the Swarthmore-Rutledge School District (also PA) until her retirement in 1986. She was active in Girl Scouting, Women's Club, and PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Upon retirement, Isabella moved to the Charlotte, NC area, close to her sister and brother-in-law. Isabella was an inspiration to her students, her peers and her children, grandchildren and nieces. She was a travelling adventurer ahead of her time, knew herself well, and did not fear anything new. She was also a strong advocate for learning and reading, and a 'cat lady'. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Magee was predeceased by her husband, John W. Magee, Jr., in 1984. She is survived by: her son, John W. (Jason) Magee, III and wife Marie; daughter Jane M. Mitchell and husband John; her beloved sister Ruth L. Weckerley; niece Kristine R. Sechler and husband Joel; niece Karen L. Sanchez and husband Robert; and two granddaughters, Amanda J. and Sarah C. Eicher. Memorial services will be held in the chapel of Plantation Estates at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Light refreshments will follow at Plantation Estates. Burial will be private. The family extends its gratitude to the wonderful staff at Plantation Estates for their devoted and loving care through many years, and Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, for their caring and kindness in Isabella's last days. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to PEO Foundation and mailed to P.E.O. Executive Office, Treasurer's Department, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312. Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.heritagecares.net
