Robert Glenn Austin, Jr. "Pop Pop" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Austin, 81, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014, surrounded by his family at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill SC. He was a 1949 graduate of Harding High School, served during the Korean War in the US Army ASA at Fort Devens, Ayer, MA. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier from Pineville, NC in 1986. After retiring he enjoyed time with family, working with flowers, feeding birds and baking pound cakes for friends. He was preceded in death by his parents R.Glenn Austin, Sr and Marie Limmer Austin. Mr. Austin is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Constance (Connie) Austin one week short of their 59th anniversary; their son Robert G. Austin, III and his wife Linda; their daughters, Mary Ellen Frizzell and James; Martha Austin Blake and her husband, Bill; and three grandsons, Austin and Carter Blake and Trent Austin; his sister, Barbara Durham and husband, Ben; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 with Father Mark Lawlor, celebrant. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, January 14, 2014 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the , 128 South Tryon St. Suite 1588, Charlotte, NC 28202 or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Building Fund, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
