Robert William Smith HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Robert William Smith passed away on January 30, 2013, at the age of 67, from complications of lung cancer at Presbyterian Hospital. Born July 14, 1945 in Alexandria, VA, he was the son of the late Robert Weaver Smith and Marie Davis Smith. After attending two years at UVA, he entered the US Marine Corp where he obtained the rank of Captain. He served in Vietnam as a combat pilot flying A6A Intruder planes. In 1970, he received a BA degree in Business/Accounting from Chapman College in Orange, CA. Later he received a BS degree in Computer Science from UNCC, where he also taught computer science. He worked for Sterling Commerce as a computer engineer in technical sales until he retired. Some of his favorite activities included sailing, gourmet cooking, gardening, wood working, and competitive shooting. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy; his son, Greg and his daughter Jill; his brother-in-law, Dr. John L. Harris, III and wife Judy of Roanoke, VA, brother-in-law Frank M. Harris and wife, Sheila of Niceville, FL and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Smith. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Smith will begin with visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 9, 2013. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00pm in The Chapel of Hartley - Burgess Funeral Home in Lancaster, SC. The family will also host a gathering afterwards at their home, 773 Coldstream Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to
