Shirley Ann Johnson Douds 5/14/1928 - 9/18/2013 PITTSBURGH, PA - Shirley Ann Johnson Douds, 85, a longtime resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Born in Ridgway, PA on May 14, 1928, Shirley was the daughter of the late Manferd and Esther Johnson. She was a 1946 graduate of Ridgway High School. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960 with a degree in Elementary Education. Although she took her greatest pride from her role as a homemaker, Shirley also enjoyed substitute teaching. Shirley is survived by her three children: her daughter, Susan Bryant; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jill Douds; and her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Jennifer Douds. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Muriel Holtin; her brother, Hamlin Johnson; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lois Johnson; her brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Marilys Johnson; and her brother-in-law LeRoy Erickson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Willard Oliver Douds; her son-in-law, Edward Bryant; and her grandson-in-law, Cpt. David Jp Thompson. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Charles Anderson; her brother-in-law Carl Holtin; and her sisters-in-law Sally Johnson and Marianne Erickson. The depth of Shirley's creativity was reflected in her various artistic endeavors. She had a great appreciation for classical music and an enthusiasm for sharing her lovely voice with others. She was an accomplished seamstress and in later years discovered a passion for painting. Shirley was also an avid golfer. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 24.
