Dr. Wallace Early CONCORD - Dr. Wallace Albert Early of Beverly Drive passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center. A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Members of the L.D. Coltrane Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Dr. Early was born Oct. 25, 1922 in Rutherford County to the late William Early and Lydia Allen Early. He was an optometrist practicing in Concord for 44 years, retiring at the age of 73. Dr. Early enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, becoming the youngest commissioned officer in the 100th Division, and retiring as a Colonel in the Army Reserve. He was educated at Garner-Webb College and Wake Forest College prior to graduating from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. He was an active member of the Concord Rotary, Coltrane LIFE Center, served on Cabarrus County Health Board, a former member of the Concord Lions Club, and a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne Beam Early in 1996. Dr. Early is survived by his wife, Jean Parrish-Early; daughters, Sandra E. Smith, and Jennifer E. Calvert and husband David, all of Concord; grandchildren, Christy S. Smith, Lauren S. Gyorfi, Lindsey Smith, and Cassie Calvert; four great-grand-children; sisters, Violet Moore and Viola Johnson, both of Shelby, and Nyda Morris of Martinsburg, W.Va.; step-daughter, Cashie Parrish and step-grandson, Tyler Hoyle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street N., Concord, NC 28025. On line condolences may be sent to www.wilkinsonfuneralhome.com.
