Walter Joseph Skridulis MINT HILL - Walter Joseph Skridulis, 88, passed away after a long illness on August 21, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Christina, and his children: Catherine "Katje" Skridulis; Cindi Hunt and husband, Fred; David and wife, Marie; Mari Shepard and husband, Derek; Sandra Phillips and husband, Richard; Joseph and wife, Heather. Walter was pre-deceased by son Jeffrey Alan and daughter Patricia Tanner. He will also be mourned by 18 grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He has one surviving brother, Anthony Spear. Walter was an Eagle Scout and served in the Navy in WWII and in the infantry in the Korean War, when he was awarded the Purple Heart. He is a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus at St. Luke's church. While supporting his wife and eight children, Walter obtained a BA from Loyola University - Chicago, Masters from UNC-Charlotte and a PhD from Walden University. Walter's career was in hospital administration and he retired as President of Craven Regional Medical Center. For relaxation, he enjoyed reading and at various times competed well in tennis and bowling. He always retained a quirky sense of humor. He lived by a strong moral code, was primarily a family man and we will miss him. Visitation will be at 10 am on August 30 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Mint Hill, followed by a mass at 11:00 and reception. He will be interred in the columbarium of St. Luke's.
