Ann Lenox Gore Spencer WINSTON-SALEM - Ann Lenox Gore Spencer passed away at the age of 70 at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 21, 1943 in Wake County to Daniel Lenox and Roberta Clyde Edwards Gore. Ann graduated from Wake Forest University in 1965 with a degree in Biology, and from N.C. State with a graduate degree in Genetics. She was a Biology and Genetics professor at the College of Southern Maryland for 30 years and retired to Winston-Salem in 1997. Ann and Rhett are members of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, G. Rhett Spencer III, her son G. Rhett Spencer IV, daughter-in-law Doraine, her daughter Dana Spencer Alligood and son-in-law Jeffrey E. Alligood. Also she leaves behind her sister Claudia Gore Cockman, brother-in-law I. L. Cockman and five grandchildren Spencer, Anna, Zach, Rhett V., and Sam. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Ralls officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at their home.
