Dorothy Louise Abernethy "Dot" CHARLOTTE - Dorothy "Dot" Louise Abernethy, 92, of the Oakdale Community, died Friday October 18, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held on hour prior to the service. Ms. Abernethy was born in Mecklenburg County and was the daughter of the late Roscoe Harry Abernethy and Letitia Craven Abernethy. She was one of six children. Ms. Abernethy was a devoted member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and actively supported many church activities. She was a member of the Ella Houston Circle and the Cora Wayland Sunday School Class. In 1998 Ms. Abernethy received the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership Award. She worked for the United States Treasury Department in Greensboro, NC and was a generous supporter of many charitable organizations including the Sierra Club, Special Olympics, and the March of Dimes. She is survived by her sister-in-law Jacqueline Abernethy, seven nieces and nephews, and their families. A devoted family member, she provided care to her aunts, sisters, and brothers in their later years and loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. Memorials may be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078. Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service.
