Lt. Col. Gordon M. Lupo, Jr. MATTHEWS - Lt. Col. Gordon M. Lupo, Jr., went to be with his Lord on March 25, 2013. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Christ Covenant Church, 800 Fullwood Lane in Matthews. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Lupo was born April 16, 1928 in Charlotte, NC and was the son of the late Gordon and Thelma Burton Lupo. He graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and received his engineering degree from Clemson University. He was also a graduate of the Alexander Hamilton Institute. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired from the U S Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. For 48 years, Mr. Lupo was employed with the W. K. Hile Company in sales as a Professional Engineer. He was a longtime supporter of New Directions International, where he was involved with funding the building of Christian churches in third world countries. Mr. Lupo in survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Gault Lupo; children, Deborah Yuan (Cary) of Denver, CO, Vivian Broderick of Mooresville, NC, Celeste Lupo-Hack of Charlotte, and Forest Lupo (Reene) of Pensacola, FL; step-children, Gina Sides (Chris) of Atlanta, GA and Boyce Gault, III (Arlene) of Charlotte; sisters, Barbara White (Bill) and Jan Payne (Larry), all of Charlotte; grandchildren, Courtenay Morgan, Katie Hawkins (Jeremy), Geoff Hoellen, Emily Mehl, Cliff Broderick (Angie), Sutton Hack and Liz Hack; step-grandchildren, Bethany Sides , Caleb Sides and Boyce Gault, IV; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Mehl and Cade Mehl. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to New Directions International, P. O. Box 4066, Burlington, NC 27216.
