Sister Helene G. Nagle CHARLOTTE - Sister Helene G. Nagle, SSJ of Charlotte, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Main. Sister Helene was born to Francis and Gertrude Browne Nagle on July 10, 1935. She attended St. Helena Catholic School and graduated from St. Basil Academy in 1953. She entered the congregation in 1954. She pronounced her first vows on August 12, 1957 and her final vows on August 12, 1962. She received her BA in Music and Education from Chestnut Hill College, an MA in Educational Administration from Catholic University and a Master in Counseling from Chestnut Hill College. Sister Helene, as she would say, was "always ready for any good works". She spent her varied ministries serving the Archdioceses of Philadelphia, PA, Harrisburg, PA, Washington, DC, Arlington, VA, and Charlotte, NC. She spent many years as a teacher and principal. Sister Helene was a dedicated teacher whose spirituality and sense of humor helped her to lead and inspire all those around her. She was affectionately known as "Sister Honey", a nickname that matched her sweet, compassionate, fun personality. When she retired as Principal of St. Ann's in 2008, Sister Helene went into Parish Ministry as Coordinator of Stewardship. This was another role that she embraced wholeheartedly as a way to continue to reach out to parish youth and those in need. Whatever her work, she did it with love, humility, and a sense of fun. Throughout her life, Sister Helene had a generous and adventurous spirit, especially for the unknown. This served her well as she traveled to Jamaica and Uganda to minister to the poor and needy of those countries. In her personal and professional life, Sister Helene exemplified the humility of St. Joseph. She lived faithfully the mission and way of life of a Sister of St. Joseph as expressed in our Constitution: "The sister of St. Joseph to be an apostle marked by docility to the Spirit, humility and zeal, expressed in a spirit of gentleness, joy, and peace." Although she is with God, she will be missed here. She is survived by a nephew, James P. Carlow, of Clinton, MA; niece, Anne-Marie Shea and husband, Matt, of West Chester, PA; and great nieces and a great nephew She is also survived by her Sisters Congregation, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia, PA.
