Herbert Paul Schmitt CHARLOTTE - Herbert, 60, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A lifelong Charlottean, he was born March 23, 1954, a son of Richard Georg Schmitt and Margaret Gretel Rank Schmitt. Following graduation from Olympic High School, Herbert furthered his education at UNC-Chapel Hill where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He then spent a seventeen-year career as a manager with Harris Teeter. Herbert was an avid Tar Heels Basketball fan and also enjoyed golf. He watched the Masters only a few days prior to his passing. He was a devoted Cub Scout Leader of Pack 106 and was also associated with Boy Scout Troop 33 where both his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Herbert is survived by his wife, Fagia Schmitt and was the proud and loving father of twin sons, Cameron and Tyler Schmitt. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Kempf, her husband, Bob, and their children, Lauren and Will Kempf. He also loved his dogs, especially Daphney. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his 3-day-old identical twin, Michael Paul Schmitt. A service to celebrate Herbert's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the chapel of Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road.
