Hubert M. Kimrey CHERAW - Hubert Kimrey, passed away at home on April 22, 2013, at the age of 88. Hubert was born in Cheraw, South Carolina October 17, 1924. After graduating high school he went to work for The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company until he joined the Navy serving from 1948 until 1952. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to work for A&P where he became the youngest store manager for A&P in the Southern division. He met and married Nancy Ruth Luck, his wife and partner of 59 years. The couple started Kimrey's Produce in 1955 and began selling fresh produce at a roadside stand in Cheraw. They opened Kimrey's IGA in 1966 and remained in business until 2001. He was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1953. Hubert was a charter member of the Cheraw Rotary Club & spent much of his leisure time on the golf course. More recently, he spent his time at home with his family, both two legged and four legged members. Long known for his love of nature and the land, he continued to enjoy his animals and the outdoors, spending much of his later years cultivating the pastures of the family property and enjoying his time on the tractor. He simply loved sitting on the back porch enjoying the view filled with the blessings of nature. He would remark time and time again, "How can anyone look out there and not believe in God?" The symphony of God's creations was always in motion from his view. Hubert is survived by his wife, Nancy Luck Kimrey, and his daughter, Robin Kimrey Sanford (Chris Sanford) of Wadesboro, NC. He was predeceased by his son, Hugh Alan Kimrey. Hubert loved his country, his community, his family, and his animals. Hubert held a special place in his heart for the many loyal customers, employees, and wholesale partners of IGA who contributed their support throughout the years. He was very much loved by family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at Kiser Funeral Home from 5:30pm until 7:30pm on Thursday, April 25th.
