Joseph Kroll "Whitey" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Joseph "Whitey" Kroll, 93, of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home. Mr. Kroll was born on March 14, 1920 in Scranton, PA, son of the late Kathleen and George Kroll. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean, of 63 years. He proudly served his country in the US Army and participated on D Day and the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR); 82nd Airborne Division. Whitey was also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame following a distinguished Football Career. He is survived by his two sons, Tom Kroll and wife, Wendy, of Charlotte and Chuck Kroll and wife, Darleen, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and by his four grandchildren, Austen, Samantha, Haley and Katie. In addition to his wife, Whitey was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kyle. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
