Ms. Edwards, 20, of Matthews, NC, died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Central Church of God, 5301 Sardis Road, Charlotte, with The Reverend Loran Livingston officiating. Leigh Lane was born August 1, 1985, in Charlotte, the daughter of Joe and Linda Edwards of Matthews. She was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and an honors student at Appalachian State University majoring in Public Relations and Spanish. She served as a RA in East Hall, Curator of The Looking Glass Art Gallery, volunteered with Shelter Rock Appalachian Relief Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and various community outreach programs in Boone. She attended Central Church of God in Charlotte and the Alliance Fellowship Church in Boone. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Logan Edwards; grandmother, Lane White; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In Leigh Lane's words, 'I have learned of the beauty of community-of uniting one's neighbors to share life, love and concern of others. I've learned that one's life is most effective when selflessly given to help and encourage others. And most importantly, I've learned that I love empowering others to teach and be equally successful.'
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shelter Rock Ministries, PO Box 1158, Boone, NC 28604 or Assistance League of Charlotte Scholarship Fund, PO Box 472864, Charlotte, NC 28247.
