Ruth Joan Hasis CHARLOTTE - Ruth Joan Hasis, 82, formerly of Mendon, OH, died Oct. 15, 2013 at Levine-Dickson Hospice House, Charlotte, N.C. She was born February 16, 1931 in York Township, Van Wert County, to Waldo and Ella Mae (Book) Thomas. She married John Frederick Hasis, who died in 2011. Surviving are sons, Steve Fought, Toledo, Bradley (Pam) Hasis, Port St. Lucie, FL, Jeff Hasis, Van Wert; and daughter, Cathy (Dr. Michael) Ruhlen, Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers: Jim (Jean) Thomas, Rockford; Carl (Mary) Thomas, Columbus; and Wayne (Connie) Thomas, Bowling Green; and two sisters Eunice (Glen) Richardson and Lois Joseph, both of Lima. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Hellwarth and Betty Simpson. She was previously married to Robert Fought, Delphos, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Hasis graduated from Mendon-Union High School earned her bachelor's degree in education from Ohio Northern University. She taught elementary school for 30 years, including Mendon-Union, Lincolnview, St. Marys and Celina. She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She loved reading, gardening and bird watching. Services will begin at 11:00 Saturday, November 2 at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. The Rev. Kenneth Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery, Rockford. Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion U.M. Church, Celina; Mendon U.M.
