Thomas Schroder Bigham CHARLOTTE - Thomas S. Bigham died Thursday, October 31, 2013 surrounded by family at the Harris Hospice Unit in Novant Presbyterian Medical Center. Mr. Bigham was born in Charlotte on November 11, 1925, to Roy Stinson Bigham, Sr. and Ethel Sadler Bigham. He graduated from Central High School and attended North Carolina State University until he was called into military service during World War II. Mr. Bigham served in Company B of the 395th Infantry Regiment of the 99th Infantry Division. The 99th Infantry arrived in France in October, 1944, and faced heavy combat in the Ardennes Offensive. The 395th regiment was one of the few units that did not yield ground to the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Bigham received a Bronze Star for his service and was discharged in May, 1946, with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was recalled to service during the Korean War and served stateside until his discharge as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Bigham then joined Industrial & Textile Mill Supply where his father was Vice President of Sales and remained there until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Bigham was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Roy S. Bigham, Jr., and is survived by his niece, Harriet B. Fickett and husband, Alan, of Winter Springs, FL; his nephew, William M. Bigham and wife, Toni, of East Bend, NC; his nephew, David M. Bigham and wife, Robin, of Charlotte; and his great-nephew, Andrew Bigham of Charlotte, and great-niece, Meredith Bigham of Charlotte. Mr. Bigham also has numerous cousins in the Charlotte area since the Bigham family has been residents of Mecklenburg County since the late 1700's. The service for Mr. Bigham will be at graveside in Elmwood Cemetery, 700 W. 6th St., Charlotte, NC 28202 at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.
