Ward Jackson Tucker, Jr. LANCASTER - Ward Jackson Tucker, Jr. of Lancaster, SC, son of Ward Jackson Tucker, Sr. and Ester Caston Tucker, passed away at his home on April 23, 2013. Mr. Tucker was an Executive at Kanawha Insurance Company for 17 years, nine of which he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. He was also a United States Navy Veteran, who served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate. Previous to his enlistment in the United States Navy, he attended Kershaw High School and later achieved his Certified Life Underwriter Designation from American College, Byrn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Mr. Tucker was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster, South Carolina, where he served as Deacon and was named Deacon Emeritus in his later years. Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Margaret Pitts Tucker, to whom he was married for 67 years; a son, Ward Jackson Tucker, III, and a daughter, Margaret Teresa Tucker, and her husband, Tony Summey; three grandchildren, Greta Patterson Hancock and her husband, Dr. Greg Hancock, Ingrid Tucker Appleby and her husband, Michael Appleby and Henry Jackson Tucker and his wife, Katie Bolus Tucker; and two great grandchildren, Luc Michael Abbleby and Jack Patrick Hancock. Mr. Tucker is also survived by brothers, David Tucker and Donald Tucker; and sister, Katie Tucker Brazell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Tucker and sisters, Shirley Kohnen and Christine Schwartz. The funeral service for Mr. Tucker will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center.
