Dexter Alexander Rawlins CHARLOTTE - We with a heavy heart, sadly announce the passing of Dexter Alexander Rawlins. Known to many as "Granpa" or "Joe", originally of Pembroke, Bermuda, but for the past 30 years plus resided in the USA. Dexter passed on Feb. 16, 2014, very peacefully. He is survived by his wife, Esther Rawlins; his three children, JoAnn Douglas, Stephen and Barry Rawlins; his three grandsons, Justin and Jason Cooper and Stephen Rawlins, Jr.; one great-grandson, Christian Alexander Cooper; one brother, Noel Simmons; a sister-in-law, Elaine Wade; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Douglas; granddaughter-in-law, Lynn Cooper; nieces and nephews, their children and spouses. He also has remaining family members residing in Bermuda, along with many friends that he has made over the years. Dexter also has many in-laws from his grandson Justin's wife's family who got to know him only over the past eight years, but adored him. Dexter was an ardent sportsman who played English football, cricket, snooker, and enjoyed the great outdoors and life. He was a family man that put family above all others, instilled a great work ethic in all, gave respect, was kind, generous, and of course, a great dancer. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, you knew it was from the heart, with deep sincerity. He was very honest, and if he told you something, take his advice - he almost always was never wrong. He will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28th in the Chapel of Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service. Condolences may be offered at www.HarryandBryantFuneralHome.com.
