Gertrude N. Greene CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Greene, 93, of Charlotte, passed away at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster. She was born in Charlotte on Jan. 16, 1921, a daughter of the late John Alexander Norman and Grace Evans Norman. Mrs. Greene graduated from Harding High School in 1939. She loved cooking, baking and working outside in her yard and garden. In 1965 she went to work for Duke Power and began her career as a stenographer. She retired after 20 years of service as Manager of Administrative Services, TD & EO Group. In 1979 Mrs. Greene earned the title of Certified Professional Secretary and in 1984 that of Certified Professional Manager. Following her retirement, she and her husband, the late Theodore, enjoyed traveling, especially to Chetola in Blowing Rock, and various other locations with Duke Power Retirees. Mrs. Greene was a longtime member of Avondale Presbyterian Church. She had a deep faith in God and a profound devotion to family. It brought her joy to give her time and talents to friends at church, work, and in the neighborhood - for either someone in need, or just as a kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents, all six of her siblings, husband Ted, daughter Gerrie McGehee, and granddaughter Dawn Stephenson. Mrs. Greene is survived her children, Carolyn Greene and her husband Donald Burns of Norfolk, Va., Betsy Greene of Charlotte, and Joe Greene and his wife, Marla of Helotes, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons Brian Stephenson and T.J. Greene. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209 with Rev. Dr. John Earl officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening April 14, 2014, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service.
