Edwin C. Donaldson DAVIDSON - Mr. Edwin Colville "Ed" Donaldson, 83, of The Pines at Davidson, formerly of Statesville, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at The Pines, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 19, 1931 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the son of Della and Edwin Donaldson, both deceased. On August 10, 1957, he was married to Freda Keziah Donaldson, of Charlotte, who survives. In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by his adoring daughter, Ellen Donaldson of Davidson; his son Philip Donaldson and wife Julie Donaldson of Stillwater, Minnesota; and three grandsons, Jesse, Andy and Eric Donaldson. He was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and Kent State University, with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. While at Kent State University, he was President of Delta Sigma Pi, the National Business Fraternity. He also earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Case-Western Reserve University. A proud patriot, he served in the United States Army, graduated from Officer Candidate School, and completed service to our country in 1956 as a 1stLieutenant. He joined Rubbermaid, Inc. in 1956, as a Sales Representative in the Carolinas, and then served as Regional Manager for the Southeastern United States. In 1965, he and his family moved to Rubbermaid's Wooster, Ohio corporate headquarters, where he was appointed Vice President, Sales and Marketing for the Home Products Division in 1970, and in 1980 became Executive Vice President of Carlan, Inc., a Rubbermaid subsidiary. Active in community and charitable organizations, he served on the Session of The First Presbyterian Church of Statesville, and on the Boards of Directors of Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army and The Statesville Country Club. He was also a member of the Statesville and Fourth Creek Rotary Clubs, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed playing golf, spending time at their beach home near Charleston, South Carolina, and traveling to visit different countries. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, June 27, at the First Presbyterian Church in Statesville, with the Rev. Stephen Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Statesville's Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jesse Donaldson, Andy Donaldson, Eric Donaldson, Jack Hudspeth, Mark Hudspeth, Gerald Bromstead, Paul Gilbert, and Anderson Sherrill. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Young Men's Bible Class of First Presbyterian Church in Statesville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, June 26, at Nicholson Funeral Home.
