Sarah Jones King CHARLOTTE - Sarah Jones King, 85, of Charlotte passed away at home with family Monday, July 14, 2014. Born in the foothills of North Carolina in the small town of Ronda on October 28, 1928, she was the only daughter of Roland Lee Jones, Sr. and Ossie Edwards Jones. She is survived by her four daughters, Leigh King Black, Cynthia King Price and her husband Timothy R. Price, Susan King Osmar, Janice King Ivey and her husband William M. Ivey, all of the Charlotte area. Also her three grandchildren; Lauren Price Pearson and her husband, Derek Pearson, Natalie Ann Price and Timothy Michael Osmar. She is also survived by her first great-grandchild, Regan Fae Pearson born just last month. Mrs. King is also survived by her older brother, Roland Lee Jones, Jr. and two sisters-in-law Lee Coates Jones of Darlington, SC and Colleen Darnell Jones of Elkin, NC. She is reunited in heaven with her younger brother Lt. Col. Robert Samuel Jones and an infant brother. She is also survived by her loving companion, Bryan Bridges of Tega Cay, SC. Mrs. King graduated from Elkin High School and attended Pfeiffer University. She met her husband and the father of her four children, James Eldridge King, deceased, after moving to Charlotte to attend Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School. Along with raising her four girls, she worked in the family business, F&R Oil Company, was a front office manager at area Holiday Inn's for over 15 years and helped her brother Roland at the Credit Bureau of Darlington. She lived in the Steele Creek community for over 25 years, was a member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Many knew her best as "Sarah and her four girls". She was a lifelong member of the Steele Creek Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She held many volunteer roles as Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, church Elder and Sunday School Teacher to name a few. Everyone always knew her for her love of life and the love she shared with her children, joy for laughter and thrill to be center of attention. She enjoyed playing Bridge with friends, reading and was a crossword puzzle enthusiast. She enjoyed travel and loved planning her next trip to the beach or adventure around the world. She also loved watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons, especially when her favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson, were to win. Other joys in her life were a hot cup of coffee, garden grown tomatoes and anything chocolate. The family would like to thank the staff of Novant Hospice and Palliative Care and her care givers for all their support. We will celebrate her life with a funeral service at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Friday, July 18, 2014, at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte. The family of Mrs. King will be receiving friends at the Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home, Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
