William L. Hopkins, Sr. "Bill" CHARLOTTE - William L. "Bill" Hopkins, Sr. passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014. He was born on June 17, 1937 in Elgin Illinois, to the late Lloyd E. Hopkins and Dorothy B. Hopkins. Bill graduated from Elgin High School and after, spent four years in the US Navy. He was employed as a truck driver with Pilot Freight, Hennis Freight Lines, Coca-Cola and Radac, Inc. He was a Master Mason and 32nd Degree Mason as member of Eastgate and Mint Hill Masonic Lodge for 25 years. Bill was also a member of the Scottish Rite and The Oasis Temple of the Shrine. Along with his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brother; James H. Hopkins, and a son-in-law; Brooks C. Jones. He is survived by his wife; Katina Davis Hopkins, and his children; William L. Hopkins Jr. (Renae), David W. Payne, Dale W. Payne (Sherry), and Tina Hopkins Jones. Bill is survived by grandchildren; Katina Jones, Kenneth S. Hopkins (Amanda), William L. Hopkins, III, Matthew Payne (Jessica), and Taylor Payne, as well as two great-grandchildren; Maci Hopkins and Ashlynn Redman. He is also survived by a sister-in-law; Shelby E. Hopkins, wife of his late brother James. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 10, from 6-8 pm at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 11, at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service Chapel. Internment with Masonic Rites will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
