Wendell M. Powell CHARLOTTE - Mr. Powell, 70, of Charlotte, died on August 10, 2014, at his residence. He was born on May 7, 1944, in Shelbyville, TN, son of the late, William F. Powell and Inez Ray Powell. Mr. Powell served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and after he became a minister of the gospel for 43 years. He was a member of the Charlotte Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother W.H. Powell. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Dean Powell; sons, Christopher M. Powell and Timothy S. Powell and his wife, Shanah; daughter, Beverly D. Powell Evans and her husband, Dale; a sister, Mayola Johnson; and a cousin, Carlos Powell. There will be a funeral service in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2014. The family will receive friends at a reception in the funeral home Tuesday before the service from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. An additional service and interment will take place in Shelbyville later in the week. Memorials may be made to the , 222 South Church St., Charlotte, NC 28202.
