Carol Grotnes Belk CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Belk passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 25, 2014, in her home at The Cypress. Carol was born in Park Ridge, Illinois on August 27, 1927 to the late Irene and Carl Grotnes. She is also predeceased by her sister, Madeline; brother, Charles and daughter-in-law, Anne Belk. She is survived by the love of her life, Irwin "Ike" Belk of almost 66 years. They were married September 11, 1948. Carol is also survived by her sons and daughters: William Irwin Belk (Georgia), Irene Belk Miltimore (Dean), Marilyn Belk Wallis (Edward) and Carl Grotnes Belk (Beth), as well as her brother, Eugene Grotnes (Nancy) of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren: Christopher Belk, Irwin Belk, II (Monica), Suzanne Belk, Mary and Carol Miltimore, David and Patricia Belk and Edward and Mary Ellen Goode, Charlotte and Jamee Wallis. Carol was a devoted wife to Ike and always had his best interest at heart. They loved to travel and especially enjoyed deep sea fishing. She loved to claim that she caught the biggest catch. Carol was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was well known for her Norwegian pancakes, which were delicious. She enjoyed her service as a founding trustee to Charlotte Latin School and as a board member of Discovery Place. Carol loved to grow orchids and share them with friends. A reception will be held in Oxford Hall following the service.
