Michael Richard Sherrill DALLAS - Michael Richard Sherrill, 50, passed away on Saturday October 6, 2012, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. He was born in Gaston Co., son of Linda Thompson Sherrill of Stanley and the late Max Sherrill, and was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Louise Thompson and Jess and Kathryne Sherrill of Stanley. He was a graduate of East Gaston High School, Class of 1980, and Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, where he attended on a golf scholarship. Mike served in the U.S. Army for three years active duty and retired after 22 years with the Army National Guard, during which he served a 15 month tour in Iraq. Mike is survived by his mother, Linda T. Sherrill of Stanley; a sister, Anne Sherrill Krug of Acworth, GA; a brother, Matthew R. Sherrill and wife Ali of Mt. Holly; nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog "Dook." Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday October 10, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Stanley. Officiating will be Reverend Grant Hoffman, a longtime friend of Mike, assisted by Reverend Noel Sweezy and Reverend Eddie McGinnis. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hillcrest Gardens. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly from 6 9 p.m. Tuesday, and at other times at the home of Linda Sherrill, 104 General Stonewall Jackson Drive, Stanley.
