George Henry Ray, Jr. CHARLOTTE - George Henry Ray, Jr., 73, died March 16, 2013 peacefully at home. He was born July 21, 1939 in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents George Henry Ray, Sr. and Rebecca Gray Ray, two brothers Isreal and Andrew Ray. Mr. Ray graduated from Second Ward High School in the 11th grade (1956). He was on the honor roll and won a scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He also attended Howard Univ., Johnson C. Smith Univ., University of Maryland, St. Mirinard Maryland School of Priesthood Belmont Abbey where he was the Director of Grants while studying, University of South Carolina and Midlands Technical College, Columbia, SC. Mr. Ray was a 20 year Army Veteran. He joined during the Vietnam War. His final retirement days of on call duty was at age 71. He is survived by six sisters: Ilean Hood, Georgia Stafford, Gladys McPherson, Rebecca Simpson and Annette Hall, all of Charlotte, NC and Pauline Brown,Denmark, SC; three brothers: George Henry Ray, Jr., Denmark, SC, Billy Ray, Sr., Hallandale, FL and Calvin Arch Ray, Charlotte, NC. Mr. Ray funeral will be held at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church, 3725 Beatties Ford Rd., Charlotte, NC at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 23rd, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. Long & Son Mortuary is in charge of the service.
