Margaret E. Brooks "Maggie" WILMINGTON - Margaret "Maggie" Erkert Brooks, age 86, of Wilmington, passed away April 16, 2013, at Davis Health Care. She was born on August 18, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Henry Erkert and Josephine Erkert. She served in the Korean War with the U.S. Navy as a Registered Nurse from October 18, 1948, to October 9, 1952. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse in the psychiatric unit and became Nurse Manager in Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. She started the psychiatric unit at Presbyterian Hospital. Upon her retirement she resided in Charlotte, North Carolina. During retirement she actively volunteered in the Shepard center, her church and the North Carolina Episcopal Cursillo. In 2010 Maggie moved to the Davis Community in the Wilmington, NC, area. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Withers Brooks, daughter Randye Brooks Cox, brother William Erkert, and sister Rosemary Etling. She is survived by her daughters Mary Jo Brooks of Greenville, SC, and Adelaide Brooks of Leland, NC, and her grandchildren David and Jody Cox, both of Richmond VA and Ginna Moore of Greenville, SC. A memorial will be held on April 27, 2013, 3 pm at The Church of the Holy Comforter in Charlotte, NC. Inurnment will follow in the church memorial garden.
