Dock Aaron Flynn LANCASTER - Dock Aaron Flynn, 88 passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Flynn was born November 17, 1924 in Lancaster, SC. He was the son of the late Simon Ellison and Cora McAteer Flynn. Mr. Flynn was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lancaster, SC. He held numerous positions in the church. Mr. Flynn was a member of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society for over 60 years. After graduating from Buford High School, he served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. Mr. Flynn was well known in Lancaster as an excellent cook. He cooked at the Hub, Motor Inn Grill and was manager and co-owner of the Spic and Span Restaurant. After 28 years, Mr. Flynn left the restaurant business due to health reasons. The late Sheriff Nae Parks gave Mr. Flynn the opportunity to start his next career as a correctional officer for the Lancaster County Sheriff Department. Mr. Flynn worked there for 17 years until his retirement. Mr. Flynn is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Eva Steele Flynn; two daughters, Emily J. Flynn of Charlotte NC; Rita F. Jamison and husband Todd of Lancaster SC; granddaughter, Brandi Jamison; grandson, Jacob Jamison; great-granddaughter Landyn Robinson and great-grandson, Asher Horne all of Lancaster SC. Mr. Flynn enjoyed watching his grandchildren, Brandi and Jacob play ball. He seldom missed a volleyball, basketball, softball or baseball game at Buford. He most recently enjoyed watching his great granddaughter, Landyn, play T- Ball. He loved working in his vegetable garden and in the yard. In recent years he enjoyed attending exercise therapy at USC-L with his wife and a dear family friend, Catherine Taylor. Mr. Flynn was preceded in death by four brothers: Willis Flynn of Charlotte NC, Grady Flynn, Arthur (Shine) Flynn, and baby Ell Flynn all of Lancaster SC; two sisters Martha Jane Funderburk of Monroe NC and Elizabeth Simpson of Charlotte NC. Funeral service for Mr. Flynn will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday June 19, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lancaster, SC officiated by Rev. Pat McCain and Rev. Della Hunsucker with burial at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at McLean Funeral Directors, Mahaffey Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4146 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720. The family would like to personally thank Dr. Howard Guthmann, Dr. John Pasquini and the nurses & staff of the 5F Cardiovascular Unit at Presbyterian hospital for the excellent care they provided Mr. Flynn.
