John Morton Hamor SUMTER - John Morton Hamor, 81, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Born August 19, 1931, in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of the late Hillard M. and Mabel Bare Hamor. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a licensed embalmer and funeral director for 64 years, recently retiring from Dunbar Funeral Home. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was very active in East Gate 692 Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite 32 in Charlotte. He loved playing the drums and was a member of Oasis Temple Shriner Band. He loved all animals and will be greatly missed by "the kids", Bella and Wrangler. Surviving are his son, Brent Hamor of Sumter; grandson, Kyle Hamor of Tampa Fla.; stepson, Kenneth Crowder (Margaret) of Hudson, N.C.; stepgrandson, Jonathan Crowder of Hudson, N.C.; niece, Cathy Merrell Ingham (Jim) of Palm Coast, Fla.; cousin, Charlotte Hamor Lockwood of Davidson, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Taylor Hamor; son, Stewart Hamor; sister, Hope Hamor Merrell. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262 or SPCA Humane Organization, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
