James Alexander, Sr. "Jimmy" CHARLOTTE - James Alexander, Sr., "Jimmy", formerly of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013, at his residence in Palm Coast, FL. He was born August 26, 1919, in Charlotte, NC where he and his older sister, Naomi Stevenson of Philadelphia, PA and brother, Curtis Alexander (deceased) were reared by his grandmother, the late Bessie Morrison Alexander. Jimmy's mother, the late Zorata Alexander Andrews, of New Bern, NC is also the mother of his brothers, Leroy Andrews (Linda) of Garrett County, MD and Eddie Tyrone Andrews of Edenton, NC. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, August 11 at Grier Funeral Service, 115 John McCarroll Avenue, as well as on Monday, August 12 at First Baptist Church West, 1801 Oaklawn Avenue, from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon. Funeral service will begin at 12 noon on Monday at First Baptist Church West. Rev. James Bradford Humphrey, III, Pastor of First Fellowship Ministries of Charlotte, officiating. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Almetto Howey Alexander; son, James Alexander, Jr., (Anita); daughters, Harriett Alexander Whiting (Robert) and Almetto Maxine Martin; grandchildren, Kali McPherson Chisholm (Freddie), Daron Whiting, Faraji Whiting; and four great-grandchildren.
