Walter Eugene Brown MATTHEWS - Walter Eugene Brown, 78, of Matthews, passed away on September 9, 2013, from heart failure. Walter was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a Past Master of Forest Lake Lodge in Minnesota. He was a very creative person who enjoyed wood working - making grandmother and grandfather clocks for his children, marquetry pictures and intarsia. His Christmas decorations in Normal, Illinois were legendary. He also worked with stained glass. Born and raised in Iowa, he joined the Air Force out of high school and learned electronics. From there he moved to Normal, Illinois and began working with IBM eventually became responsible for installing main frame computers across the country. He started his own company that took him and his wife to Africa and Europe. He had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to talk to anybody. He is survived by Janice, his loving wife of 59 years; his children William Brown, Richard Brown, Jeanette Carstensen (Duke) and Charlotte Matthews (Brad). In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held in Minneapolis.
