Bobby Ray Newton MOORESVILLE - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" ~ Psalm 116:15 All of Heaven rejoiced on the morning of Thanksgiving 2013 when one of its' saints left his earthly home to join those gone before him. Devoted husband and proud father, Mr. Bobby Ray Newton, age 80, passed from this world to the next with his family close by his side. Mr. Newton was born and raised in Mooresville, NC, where he married his childhood sweetheart, Vivian E. Newton, and they shared sixty-one years together and raised five Godly and healthy children who kept them entertained. Those five children - Melanie, Rob, Amy, Aaron and Heidi - were Mr. Newton's pride, literally and figuratively, as was his grandson, Ian, and daughter-in-law Cindy. In his younger years, Mr. Newton was proud to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. For many years, Mr. Newton worked as a machinist, and later as a foreman, at Holshouser Incorporated, which later became Crompton and Knowles Co. Mr. Newton was an active member of Shearer Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher in the past. Following his retirement, Mr. Newton spent many hours in his wood shop caning chairs, designing and building bird houses and rabbit hollars, most of which he enjoyed simply giving away to people he respected and loved. Already, Mr. Newton is dearly missed by his family and friends, all of whom hold many cherished memories of this precious man with a generous heart, a loving spirit and a sense of humor that will be remembered eternally. A Home Going service of remembrance for Mr. Newton will be held at Shearer Presbyterian Church, 684 Presbyterian Road in Mooresville, on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. A time of visitation with Mr. Newton's family will precede the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Church. In the event that others wish to honor Mr. Newton, his family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mooresville Area Bible Teachers Association at P.O. Box 1091, Mooresville, NC 28115 or to Samaritan's Purse at P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the Newton family.
