Robert Denton "Bob" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Denton, 92, of Charlotte, NC passed away on March 20, 2014 at Novant-Presbyterian Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1921 in Dayton, TN son of the late Roy Denton and Celia Pierce Denton. He graduated from Rhea County Central High School and went on to serve in the Army Air Corp during World War II. After the war, he worked as a Textile Technical Consultant for Dupont for 34 years. He was active in his church, Providence United Methodist where he was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the 455th Bomb Group Association as well as the Phalanx #31 Masonic Lodge (formerly Joppa # 530). Mr. Denton had many hobbies, among them were golf, baseball, playing cards, Carolina basketball and watching the Braves. He was a loving husband and father who will be missed! In addition to his parents, Mr. Denton was preceded in death by his daughter Jane Denton. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Dorothy Denton and son R. Leroy Denton, Jr. and his wife Amy Jo. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211. The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Wesley Sunday School Class at Providence United Methodist Church.
