Charlotte radio personality Brandon Hendley, 24, died Friday after a fall from the Interstate 485 bridge over I-77.
Hendley was known as "Baby Boy" to late-night listeners of WNKS FM ("Kiss" 95.1).
"The kid was an up-and-coming star on the radio station," said Keith Cornwell, vice president and general manager of WNKS. "We're all heartbroken. We were excited about his potential."
Hendley had worked part-time at "Kiss" for about three years on the evening shifts. This week, he was hired full-time for the overnight shift at the station but hadn't moved into the job yet.
Hendley made a celebrity appearance Thursday night from midnight until 2 a.m. Friday at the popular nightclub "Crush" on East Stonewall Street in Charlotte. Afterward, he returned the radio station van to the studios.
About 5 a.m., police got a call that a man had gotten out of a car on the high overpass and plunged over the side of the bridge. A woman was in the car with him.
Hendley's lifeless body was found minutes later in the median of Interstate 77.
